LATU

Latu was born in Nauru in 1990 and emigrated to Tuvalu when he was two years old. Like Ali, he arrived in Aotearoa unable to speak English. When his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he was forced to work in McDonalds to support his family. It wasn’t until he registered for work that he realised he was now an overstayer. Billy learnt that Latu was on the run from police due to his residency status and supported his application to become a NZ resident.

A full-time boxing coach and mentor, Latu ran the Cannon’s Creek Boxing Academy for several years.
